FRIENDS OF SOUTH BROADWAY PRESS

South Broadway Press does not exist on an island. We are thankful to all of the places, organizations, and individuals that have acted as partners and collaborators over the years.

BOOKSTORES

BOULDER BOOKSTORE

We host more than 200 events in the store and in the community every year. Boulder Bookstore has been named “Bookstore of the Year ” by Publishers Weekly in 2018, and “Best of Boulder” by local papers every year since 1987. As a founding member of the Boulder Independent Business Alliance (one of the first of its kind in the country), David Bolduc, owner of the Boulder Bookstore, has been at the forefront of the “shop local” movement for over a decade.

It’s a simple goal: we just want to get books to new homes.

PUBLICATIONS

BEYOND THE VEIL PRESS

Beyond The Veil Press is a queer and trans-led indie publisher of poetry and art, founded in 2021 by two SCAD graduates. Our mission centers mental health awareness and creative expression. We began on the ancestral lands of the Arapaho, Ute, and Cheyenne peoples (Denver), and in 2024, we relocated to the lands of the Kumeyaay (San Diego). The press is currently run by co-founder & poet Sage Herrin, alongside a team of generous volunteers—paid in books and deep gratitude. If you would like to join us for an event, please let us know! Throughout the year, we donate to mental health nonprofits and share free resources with our community, including writing workshops, ebooks, and any healing tools we come across.

DENVERSE MAGAZINE

Local. Independent. Human. Yours. Denverse distills the very best of the city’s culture into a single vibrant print edition. Each quarterly issue features award-winning local writers, musicians, comedians, artists, and more. Rediscover what a magazine can be.

MIDDLE CREEK PUBLISHING

At Middle Creek Publishing & Audio, we believe that the disconnection between humanity and nature contributes to the challenges we face in today’s world. Here in what we see as the Anthropocene, a time marked by significant human influence on the planet, Middle Creek Publishing recognizes the vital connection between nature and humanity. Middle Creek Publishing envisions a world in which we care for the places we inhabit and the people we encounter. Our intention is clear: to forge deeper connections between people and deeper connections to the world they share and inhabit, fostering unity, healing, and a rekindled passion for nature (the real) and for the built environments (any aspects of society & culture, philosophy, ideologies, etc) through the literary arts.

STAIND ARTS

Denver-based, multidisciplinary & artist run since 2015. Stain’d Arts is a 501(c)3 nonprofit curating paid platforms for literary, visual, and performative artists working outside of the dominant narrative. They believe art which disrupts unexamined beliefs is art doing its best work in society. This approach asks of us as arts curators to strive to elevate voices and artists whose work is not typically seen in the mainstream consumption of art and culture. In search of work that defamiliarizes.

SUSPENDED MAGAZINE

Suspended is meant for the stories that are complete, yet seem unfinished. The endings hang and dangle off the final page, like a pendulum, seeking answers. We want your poems or short fiction stories that are suspended in this regard, have suspenseful endings, or are ambiguous in nature at any or every turn. Send us your visual art that makes onlookers question its meaning. Suspended Magazine is a registered not-for-profit organization.

TWENTY BELLOWS

Twenty Bellows seeks to showcase the work of the next generation of artisans – those who work in word and verse with the same intensity of a blacksmith and their hammer. Emphasizing the work of emerging and unpublished writers and poets, 20B seeks to amplify their voices in print and on stage. They are fiercely inclusive, independently managed, and dedicated to the creation of something incredible.

BUSINESSES

GOLDSPOT BREWING

At Goldspot Brewing, we’re deeply committed to fostering a safe and inclusive space for our community. Our doors are open to everyone, and we go the extra mile to ensure that everyone who walks through our doors feels welcomed and valued. It’s our belief that sharing a love for great beer and positive experiences brings people together in a way that transcends differences.

HOOKED ON COLFAX

Serving the South City Park neighborhood since 2005. Saunter down East Colfax for a visit. Full espresso bar featuring local roasters, beer, wine, cocktails, housemade fresh pastry, rotating art shows and endless events. Escape from the bustle on the cozy back patio or discover our hidden red room if you can find it.

LADY JUSTICE BREWING

Our mission is simple: we’re brewing great beer to make the world a better place. The Lady Justice Brewing Company was dreamed up by Betsy Lay, Kate Power, and Jen Cuesta during their 2010 service in AmeriCorps – asking the question “why can’t we brew beer and give back to our community?” What began as a small operation on a custom-built homebrew system in a tiny storage space has grown into a flourishing taproom and movement. Today, Lady Justice Brewing is owned by Lay and her wife, Alison Wisneski. It functions as a community-focused brewery dedicating time, space, and money to nonprofits and community partners that support and empower women, girls, and nonbinary people in the state of Colorado. Our giving is focused in two direct ways: through our Community-Supported Beer (CSB) memberships with 100% of profits over cost going directly to CSB nonprofit partners, and through the fabric of the taproom community, highlighting opportunities to volunteer, collaboration brews, and more.

ROOM FOR FRIENDS WINE BAR

Howdy World! We’re Michael and Heather and this is about us and our Room For Friends. Let me take you back to 2016 inside of Local 46 when Michael waked into the view of Heather as they both were enjoying a night out with their own friends. “Hi, do you want to make out?” said Heather. “Sure!” replied Michael. They quickly fell in love and started sharing their love of cooking with each other and with their friends. As the years went by, they started hosting a weekly dinner party that went from just a few close friends to 20+ people in their apartment. Michael had been studying mixology and loved showing off his cocktail making skills along with his and Heather’s cooking skills. Friends started bringing bottles of wine to these dinner parties and the couple became intrigued with how different wines could influence the enjoyment of a meal. Interest piqued inside of Michael and he began to study wine instead of cocktails and so the journey began. Heather and Michael discussed about how had both found their greatest joy in life by hosting these weekly dinner parties. Both were ready to move on from their current jobs and decided to create a future for themselves doing what they truly loved: bringing food and wine and friends together! They set out on a journey to create a larger Room For Friends where people from across the city could come together to enjoy food, wine, and each other. Thus, after almost two years of planning, searching, and construction, please join us at Room For Friends … a wine bar!

SWEET ACTION ICE CREAM

Sweet Action is a Denver based ice cream company seeking to make our differences smaller and bring people closer through our love of ice cream. When Sweet Action opened in 2009, most ice cream was made with flavoring, coloring and fast, yet thoughtless production processes. While a third wave ice cream movement was underway, the wave hadn’t made it to Denver. Sweet Action started to change this. We are committed to make the best dairy and vegan ice cream. We source high quality dairy, use fresh fruit and homemake our own baked goods. With production running on wind energy and a team that’s supported by fair living wages and benefits, we keep it sweet for all.

BUTTER & BLOOM BAKEHOUSE

At Butter & Bloom Bakehouse, every treat is made with care and creativity. From a dozen of my irresistible chocolate chip cookies to beautifully crafted cupcakes and cakes, I use only the finest ingredients to ensure every bite tastes amazing. Each decoration is handmade and often hand-painted, giving your desserts a truly one-of-a-kind touch that’s as special as the occasion itself.

TWIST & SHOUT

Twist and Shout began in 1988. Paul Epstein and Jill Parrish, two high school English teachers, were taking a walk through their West Washington Park neighborhood when they approached what had been Paul’s favorite record store since moving to Denver in 1968. As they approached, they noticed a sign on the door: SEIZED: Tax Auction. In a moment of serendipitous clarity, Paul and Jill knew where their future lay – a 3,000 square foot record store on South Pearl Street. Twist and Shout, now 11,000 square feet in the heart of Denver’s Congress Park neighborhood, a stone’s throw from The Fillmore, Bluebird, Ogden, Lion’s Lair, Goosetown and many other venues, finds itself at the crossroads of the past and future.

UCHI SUSHI

Founded by James Beard Award winning chef Tyson Cole, Uchi means “home” in Japanese, and that spirit of warmth and connection is what we’re built on. As a young sushi chef, Tyson Cole fell in love with the magic of the sushi bar: the intimacy, the conversation, and the collaboration with guests that turned every bite into something unforgettable. Located in Denver’s vibrant RiNo District, Uchi brings its award‑winning approach to one of the city’s most creative and evolving neighborhoods. With bold flavor, refined technique, and thoughtful hospitality, Uchi offers a standout destination for sushi in Denver where every detail is crafted to elevate the experience.

STRANAHAN’S DISTILLERY

Stranahan’s® Colorado Whiskey is Colorado’s first legal whiskey distillery since Prohibition. This Rocky Mountain Single Malt is handcrafted from grain to glass in Denver, Colorado. Using only the finest resources, our whiskey is made from 4 ingredients: 100% malted barley, yeast, Rocky Mountain water, and time in the barrel. The story of Stranahan’s started when volunteer firefighter Jess Graber responded to a neighbor’s barn fire in 1998. He never imagined that any good would come of it. But the barn he made an effort to save belonged to Woody Creek local George Stranahan, a long-time brewery owner, and whiskey connoisseur. When the fire settled, the two discovered a shared passion for the Colorado outdoors and a good pour of fine whiskey.
